1. Porcelain Planter Workshop
There is something calming about working with your hands and this class will teach student the classic ceramics techniques used to make teapots, coffee mugs, vases and more. The class will teach how to make functional and sculptural works that will last. This class is “trial” format class is a hands-on intensive for a minimum of (2 1/2 hours). Handbuilding is a pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, whereby the potter shapes, assembles and embellishes pots from clay. By the end of the porcelain planter workshop the participants will have built 1 planter that will be finished with glaze. 2. Introduction to Meditation
The meditation method used at this center is very precise, and it offers the fastest method to connect with yourself. The development of this technique gives helps you attain freedom, peace, truth, and happiness. It is a relatively easy to learn, but a powerful way of cleaning and releasing the mind. Your are invited to visit and look around their center to witness the teaching methods of self-reflection and subtraction. 3. Black Friday Hike: The Alley Giant
Black Friday while everyone is rushing and reacting to information overload, skip the long lines and save yourself the stress. A better ideas is to join Urban Park Rangers and work off your Thanksgiving feast while enjoying New York City’s great outdoors! There is a marvel of nature called The Alley Giant—which is a tulip tree— that happens to be the tallest and oldest living organism in our city. Now get ready for this, botanist estimate it to be between 350 and 450 years old! This incredible tree has been around before our fore-parents and even before the birth of our great nation. 4. Graffiti Art Workshop
There are a lot of misconceptions by the established order about graffiti as an art form but if you have are from the city and have seen a few of them that will put your doubts to rest. So get your spray cans ready and prepare for a liberating hands-on lesson that will teach you the techniques used for this controversial art form. Graffiti is words or pictures that are written or drawn in public places, for example on walls or poster. There are many inspiring works of art throughout the city especially some of my favorite which are murals which shows us that we can find strength in each other. The workshop will run you through a brief overview and basics, and after that the essential painting techniques and theories. This is a hands-on session so get ready to participate and enjoy creating something to remember. The price is $33 and if for both children and adults.
